Seating Chart & Table Planner
Type in your names, choose a grid layout or table assignment, and generate a printable seating plan — for a classroom, wedding, banquet, sports team, or any event.
About this seating chart & table planner
Type your name list once, then choose whichever layout actually matches your event. "Grid layout" arranges names into rows and columns of seats — the right shape for a classroom, an exam hall, theater-style seating, or a sports team lineup. "Tables / groups" instead arranges names into a set of numbered tables of whatever size you set — the right shape for a wedding reception, a banquet, a conference, or any event organized around tables rather than a grid of individual seats. Both modes share the same name list and the same seating-order choice, so switching between them doesn't mean re-entering anyone.
If a grid layout doesn't have enough seats for everyone at the column count you've set, extra rows are added automatically to fit the full list, without cutting anyone off. In table mode, however many tables it takes to seat everyone at your chosen table size are generated automatically — if 26 names don't divide evenly into tables of 8, the last table simply has fewer seats filled, exactly like a real event.
Seating order works the same in both modes: as entered, alphabetically (sorted exactly as typed, case-insensitively — type names as "Last, First" if you want a last-name sort), or randomly shuffled, useful for a fair, unbiased table or seat assignment without any manual work.
Nothing you type is uploaded anywhere; the chart or table list is generated and printed entirely in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Is this only for classrooms?
No. "Grid layout" suits a classroom, exam hall, or theater-style seating, while "Tables / groups" suits a wedding, banquet, conference, or any event organized around numbered tables rather than a grid.
What happens if my names don't divide evenly into tables?
The last table simply gets fewer people — for example, 26 names at 8 seats per table produces three full tables of 8 and one table of 2, rather than an error or an uneven split elsewhere.
What happens if I have more people than a grid layout can hold?
Extra rows are added automatically to fit everyone, keeping your column count fixed. A note confirms how many rows were added.
Can I change the "front" label for a non-classroom event?
Yes, in grid layout mode it's a plain text field — set it to "Stage," "Head Table," "Screen," or clear it out entirely if your layout doesn't need one.
Is my name list saved or uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is generated locally in your browser; your list is never sent anywhere.
