About this blanket size calculator
Pick from common blanket sizes — lovey, baby, toddler, throw, twin, full/queen, or king — or switch to Custom and enter your own width and height in inches or centimeters. Add your gauge (stitches and rows per 4 inches or 10 centimeters, measured from your own swatch) and the calculator works out how many stitches to cast on or chain, and how many total rows to work to reach that finished size.
The sizes offered here are common guides, not fixed rules — a blanket can be whatever size feels right for its purpose, whether that's a lovey small enough for a car seat or a king-sized throw for a large bed. The visual preview updates as you adjust width and height, giving a rough sense of the finished proportions before you commit to casting on, and switching size presets updates your width and height fields automatically so you don't have to look anything up separately.
An optional yarn estimate is also available: enter how many yards a 4×4 inch (or 10×10 cm) swatch of your actual project used, and the tool scales that up to the full blanket area. This is more reliable than a generic "yards per blanket size" chart, since yarn usage varies hugely by stitch pattern, yarn weight, and tension — scaling from your own swatch accounts for all of that automatically, rather than assuming everyone's tension and stitch choice behave the same way.
All numbers are estimates based on your gauge; they don't include any border or edging stitches you might add afterward, and complex stitch patterns may use yarn at a different rate than a plain gauge swatch would suggest.

Frequently asked questions
Are the preset sizes exact standards?
They're common guides, not fixed rules. A blanket can be whatever size feels right for its purpose — use Custom to enter any width and height you like.
Why does the yarn estimate need my own swatch?
Yarn usage per square inch varies hugely by stitch pattern, yarn weight, and tension. Scaling from your own measured swatch is far more accurate than a generic size-based yardage chart.
Does the stitch/row count include a border?
No, these numbers cover the main body of the blanket only. Add extra stitches and rows yourself if you're planning a border or edging.
Can I switch between inches and centimeters?
Yes, use the unit toggle. Your width and height convert automatically when you switch, and the gauge label updates to match (per 4 inches or per 10 cm).
Is my data saved or uploaded anywhere?
Everything happens locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
